The AFM LOFOORD assembly in UPINGTON was established in
October 1956 with the amalgamation of the AFM of SA and the Christengemeente.
Since the Amalgamation the assembly has gone through various seasons but has always been able to see and experience the move of the Lord Jesus. He has always guided, provided and protected them.
Looking at the history of the assembly, there were several highlights. Two issues stand out as remarkable achievements. Firstly, since it’s inception, the assembly has only been served by six presiding pastors. This has given the assembly stability as well as favour with the community.
The second issue is the fact that the assembly has always been involved in extending the Kingdom outside the boundaries of the majority of it’s members. A lot of work is been done down the Orange River Irrigation Scheme where people are ministered to at or close to their place of residence.
The focus on the Great Commission has recently been re-established as the assembly’s main reason for existence. The assembly is once again in the process of being mobilised to get involved in reaching the lost. Members are challenged and equipped to make a difference “from where we are to the ends of the earth”. Members can get involved in reaching the lost by personal witness, prayer, going themselves and financially enabling Missionaries to go to places they cannot go.
Since re-focusing, they have seen the Lord working in a very special way. In addition to getting assembly members to be witnesses in the workplace and immediate surroundings, they are currently financially supporting nine missionaries across the globe and is also financially supporting thirteen missionary organisations. “All the glory be to God!! If we are willing to take the Great Commission to heart, we are touching the heart of God and He starts working the miracles” says Pastor Derrick Grobler. “We are excited about the future and believe that God is going to use us in various ways to be part of the labourers bringing in the harvest. I would like to conclude with the following : Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God on behalf of the Jews is that they would be saved. (Rom 10:1) Where this verse refers to the Jews we see it as all the people around the world.”
Alta and I recently had the opportunity of visiting Pastor Derrick, on behalf of AFMIN. We were richly blessed when heard of the heart and attitude this assembly has regarding missions and the Great Commission. As supporters of AFMIN, they are involved in the training of pastors and church leaders throughout Africa and their support is greatly appreciated.
